NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 6 10/16-18-19/2022

WHEW !!!  What a nightmare week I had.  Really hope you did better.  Would be hard to do worse.  BEST I did was only being off 3pts from the total score.

Sunday 10/16/22:  I don’t like the way this week is going.  Looks like the WEEK OF THE UNDERDOG.   I am looking at my worst week in all my  years of playing this confidence game.

SEAHAWKS: HC Pete Carroll said the team is working through a change in Kick Off time with the Arizona Cardinals to avoid a conflict of time with a possible 4th game Seattle Mariners against the Houston Astros.  The 2 stadiums are within a 3 block radius of each other.  Which would make a huge crowd of people in a small area.   No word yet as how this will play out.

Regarding the question I had last week, (when is a QB a passer).  I found the answer (as it may be).

Rule 12, Article 11, Paragraph B

When tackling a passer who is in a DEFENSELSS POSTURE, (e.g . DURING or JUST AFTER throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unessarlily throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defenders weight.  Instead the defensive player must strive to fall to the side of the quarterbacks body, or BRACE his fall with his arms to avoid landing on the quarterback with all or most of his body weight.

In the  case of the Brady take down.  According to the rules he was neither passing or just after the pass.  THIS takes away the defenseless portion of the rule, as Brady was not PASSING. NOR was it JUST AFTER throwing a pass, Brady was scrambling.    The defender did everything in his power to protect the quarterback.  He not only braced the fall with his arms, he actually rolled under him to help break the fall of the quarterback.   in other words he did everything correctly and was punished for it.      STRIVE:  To devote serious effort.  I could strive to be a millionaire.  Little chance of that.  But perhaps I do strive to be a millionaire.  I occasionally buy a lottery ticket.   What I am saying is you can try to do something,  but not really succeed.  Again another opinion , much to the referee’s ability to read the mind of the player.  SOMETIMES it is pretty obvious.   In these cases NFL protects themselves, by not calling them ‘opnions”, they are deemed “JUDGEMENT” calls.   See how one word can change the entire meaning of an idea?

You may have noticed I stressed “unessarlily“.  Unessarilly is a relevent term.  I can safely say for me to stop a player would take a lot more NESESSARY action than it would for a 250#-300# man.  So as you see.  A referee could look at a play and then has to determine if the DEFENDER could have used less force to down the player.  (Entirely an opinon not a fact.

For those of you who don’t remember.  Before the new media # before a number, just meant the same as saying number whatever.  When it followed a number it meant pound.

BUCCANEERS:  Tom Brady was fined  $11, 139.oo for kicking Grady Jarrett – the DT who was called for UNNESSARY ROUGHNESS” as Jarrett was getting up.  REFEREE was looking right at the action.  Perhaps the REF needs to see an eye doctor.  He sees a nonexistent Unnessary Roughness calls, BUT not the KICK.  Appears to me the only Unnecessary Roughness was on the behalf of the KICKER. not on the TACKLER.  Seems to me Kicking a player is more Unnecessary than a textbook tackle.  Feeling generous, maybe the Ref  threw the flag for the KICK,  then got confused and couldn’t remember why he threw the flag.  Or was it because Tom Brady would never do anything wrong?    I believe the officials should be given at least a 1 game suspension for obvious “BAD CALLS”.

For those of you who are new here. This is  how confidence ranking goes, let me explain.

If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT).  The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game.  EXAMPLE:  Say this week we have 16 games.  The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1.   You add up the TOTAL CORRECT PICKS.. That would be your score.  We use the Monday night (Last game played) as a TIE BREAKER.  The tie is broken by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating teams) final score, without going over.

YOU can adopt the scoring  described above.  Or, the optional method.  A  negative score for missed games.  We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions.  EXAMPLE:   if you scored     1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pts on the second game and lost you would still have  1 pt.

1.  HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a –14 score

If we were playing this is how my sheet would look;  My pick will be in bold Capital letters.  you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting.  I will show my correct points in Bold

I will fill in my picks Thursday.  Until then feel free to:
