NCAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 ND vs OSU

The 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship is set to feature a thrilling matchup between the No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The game is scheduled for January 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Team Overviews: Ohio State Buckeyes: After a regular-season loss to Michigan, the Buckeyes have demonstrated resilience, advancing through the playoff bracket with decisive victories over Tennessee and Oregon, and a 28-14 win against Texas in the semifinals. Their defense has been particularly formidable, highlighted by defensive end Jack Sawyer’s 83-yard fumble return for a touchdown against Texas. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Since an early-season upset by Northern Illinois, Notre Dame has been on a 13-game winning streak, showcasing a robust defense that ranks second nationally, allowing just 14.3 points per game. Their playoff journey included victories over Indiana, Georgia, and a narrow 27-24 win against Penn State in the semifinals. Key Matchups to Watch: Quarterback Play: Ohio State‘s Will Howard and Notre Dame‘s Riley Leonard, both transfers, have been instrumental in their teams’ successes. Howard‘s connection with receiver Jeremiah Smith has been particularly effective, while Leonard has provided stability and leadership for the Irish offense. Defensive Strengths: Both teams boast top-tier defenses. Ohio State leads the nation in yards and points allowed, with standout players like safety Caleb Downs and cornerbacks Denzel Burke and Davison Igbinosun. Notre Dame‘s defense has been equally impressive, consistently limiting opponents’ scoring opportunities. Betting Odds and Predictions: As of January 11, Ohio State is favored by 9.5 points over Notre Dame, with an over/under of 46.5 points. Analysts suggest that while Ohio State‘s offense is potent, Notre Dame‘s defensive capabilities could keep the game competitive. Some experts recommend considering Notre Dame against the spread, anticipating a closer contest than the odds might indicate. Game Outlook: The championship game is expected to be a defensive battle, with both teams relying on their strong defensive units to control the game’s tempo. Turnovers and key defensive plays could be pivotal in determining the outcome. While Ohio State‘s offense has been explosive, Notre Dame‘s resilience and ability to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes make them a formidable challenger. Prediction: Given both teams’ defensive prowess, the game is likely to be a low-scoring affair. Ohio State‘s recent offensive performances suggest they may have a slight edge, but Notre Dame‘s momentum and determination to secure their first national title since 1988 cannot be underestimated. A final score in the vicinity of Ohio State 24, Notre Dame 17 is plausible, with the possibility of overtime if both defenses dominate as expected.   Post Views: 33

THE BIRTH of BASKETBALL: JAMES NAISMITH and SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE

[adrotate group=”1″]     🏀  Basketball, unlike most popular sports, has a concise and all-American origin—it is the only major sport strictly rooted in the United States. The game was created by James Naismith, a physical education instructor, around December 1, 1891, at the International Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts.  Naismith designed the game as an indoor activity to keep athletes active during the winter months.   Little did he know that his invention would become a global phenomenon. Early Years and Growth Outdoor Beginnings:  In the early years, the number of players on a team varied based on class size and playing area.  The first games were played with varying team sizes, but eventually settled on five players per team—a rule that remains unchanged to this day. Canada’s Role:  Since Naismith and five of his original players were Canadians, it’s not surprising that Canada was the first country outside the United States to embrace basketball. The game quickly spread to other countries, including France, England, Australia, China, India, and Japan. Collegiate Sport:  Within a decade, basketball became a collegiate sport, and the first professional league was formed in 1898. Olympic Inclusion:  Basketball gained inclusion in the Olympic Games in 1936 and grew in international popularity following World War II. The NBA: The formation of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1949 cemented the sport’s cultural importance in the United States. Crawfordsville, Indiana: The Cradle of Basketball Montgomery County, Indiana, situated between Indianapolis and Lafayette, proudly claims the title of the “Cradle of Basketball.” First Indiana High School Champions:  The first eight Indiana High School state championships were won by schools within 30 miles of Crawfordsville. Crawfordsville High School clinched the inaugural title in 1911. Dominance of Crawfordsville: From 1915 to 1969, Crawfordsville dominated, winning 32 sectional titles. Waynetown’s Upset:  In 1970, Waynetown High School pulled off a surprise upset over Crawfordsville, winning the sectional championship. Kim “The Closer” Suitors scored 17 points in the final quarter during that memorable game. Alamo Gym: The Alamo gym, south of Waynetown, still stands, albeit in disrepair. Its beautiful murals on the 1941 façade are a testament to its basketball legacy. “Hoosiers” Connection: Fans of the movie “Hoosiers” might recognize New Richmond, also known as the town of “Hickory.” The town embraced its notoriety gained from its part in the film. March Madness and Crawfordsville March Madness, the thrilling college basketball tournament, has its origins in Crawfordsville, Indiana. While the phrase was coined in Evansville, Crawfordsville has long been considered the host of the first basketball game in Indiana’s history. With the spotlight on Crawfordsville, Indiana, this year, the hardwoods once again become the center of the basketball universe. So next time you watch a basketball game during March Madness, remember that it all began with James Naismith’s vision and found its roots in the heart of Indiana—Crawfordsville. 🏀🌟 For more details, explore the Basketball Heritage Trail and discover the incredible stories and landmarks that make Montgomery County an unforgettable place for hoops history. 2024 MARCH MADNESS PICK SHEETS , UPDATES AND OCCASIONAL OPINION

Yes I will have “MY PICKS” so you can compare your picks to mine. (And Laugh or Cry)I will have A “MASTER BRACKET”,  “WHAT IF YOU CHOSE THE HIGH PICKS”  for each game.  Yes I will have MY PICKS.      An “UPSET” will be RED on “ALL HIGH PICKS”  Bracket.  GREEN indicate HIGH SEED Win. What is a seed?  Merely a starting place.  Although unlikely, IT is possible for two 16 seeds to meet in the final game.  Would lets say were, Michigan St., to be seeded as a number 16.  They would still have  to win all games to be CHAMPION !       SEEDING attempts to give a more favored team an easier path to the CHAMPIONSHIP.  Seeding should lead to  the best 2 teams playing in the final game.  However there  is always that upset minded team;  or  the chance that the favored team has a bad game, a stand out player is sick or injured.   For more information feel free to go to…     https://ftm.coursemateai.com/home 🏀 I tried to pin Artie Fischal into filling out a bracket.  The Closest I got was his Final Four.   One pick might throw you for a loop.  All Number 1 seeds EXCEPT one.  That one odd pick is TENNESEE.  What do you think about this. Sorry for the mixup on the bracketts.  I had them right to start with.   BUT when they the NCAA Selection announced the position of the bracketts they had them in a different order, (which is how I posted them).  I asked the friends and family if they heard the difference.  They all agreed.  So I changed my brackett setup.    I should have checked how CBS or other sources had them.  My fault.  (i guess). HISTORY OF the WOMENS NCAA MARCH BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

[adrotate group=”1″]         SELECTION SUNDAY FIRST GAME   (People ask me why I don’t write about the Women’s March Madness.  TIME ! I have 4 TVs going watching the men.  Then posting the results, no time.)  I did ask a friend if he would be willing to help with the womens tournament.  He said yes.  BUT I remebered his telling me about his Dad taking him to a PACERS game.  He told me the Pacers were playing the Jets, and he thought Reggie Miller was a good quarterback.   I decided to pass on his help.   Thanks anyway.      (No not looking for a  volunteer outside my circle). SELECTION SUNDAY WILL TELECAST ON ESPN      The NCAA women’s basketball tournament is an annual event that determines the national champion of Division I women’s college basketball in the United States.  It began in 1982, following the dissolution  of the AIAW, which had organized the women’s championship since 1972.  The NCAA tournament has grown in popularity and prestige over the years, attracting millions of fans and producing some of the most memorable moments in women’s sports history.   The tournament follows a similar format and selection process as the men’s tournament, with 68 teams competing in a single-elimination bracket. The teams are divided into four regions and seeded from 1 to 16, with the four lowest-seeded teams playing in the First Four games to advance to the first round.  The regional winners then advance to the Women’s Final Four, where the national semifinals and final are held.  The Women’s Final Four is usually scheduled on the same weekend as the men’s Final Four, but in a different host city.      The most successful team in the history of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament is Connecticut, which has won 11 titles, including four consecutive championships from 2013 to 2016.  The Huskies are coached by Geno Auriemma, who holds the record for the most wins in the tournament with 127.  Other notable coaches who have led their teams to multiple titles include Pat Summitt of Tennessee, Tara VanDerveer of Stanford, Kim Mulkey of Baylor, and Muffet McGraw of Notre Dame.      The tournament has also featured some of the greatest players in women’s basketball history, such as Cheryl Miller, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart, and Sabrina Ionescu.  Some of the most memorable games in the tournament include the 1991 final between Tennessee and Virginia, which went to overtime and was decided by a buzzer-beater by Dena Head; the 1994 final between North Carolina and Louisiana Tech, which was also decided by a buzzer-beater by Charlotte Smith; the 2006 final between Maryland and Duke, which went to an extra period and was won by a layup by Kristi Toliver; and the 2018 semifinal between Notre Dame and Connecticut, which was won by a last-second shot by Arike Ogunbowale.      The most recent champion of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament is LSU, which defeated Iowa 102-85 in the 2023 final in Dallas, Texas.  It was the first title for the Tigers and their coach Kim Mulkey, who had previously won three titles with Baylor.  The 2023 tournament was also notable for the historic performance of Iowa’s Caitlin Clark*, who averaged 34.2 points per game and became the first player to score 100 points in the first two round, *Iowa’s Caitlin Clark has already, (this season), set a new women’s scoring record, scoring now sits at 3,569 career points, with 15 games to go.  (At this writing). 2023 MARCH MADNESS PICK SHEETS , UPDATES AND OCCASIONAL OPINION

IT’S OVER   San Diego St.  59 UCONN.            76 Look here for the score for the Championship game.  I will add them to the brackets tomorrow.  The reason for this I live in a state that is located in the CENTRAL Time Zone.  But a several years ago we had a DiCTATOR for Govenor.  Who came from. Most of his life being spent in Washington DC.  We were already using Eastern Standard Time all year round Which put us ahead of the sun by 1 hour.  We made the most if it.  THEN he decided he wanted us to go 2h hours ahead of the sun.  For those of you who don’t  already know, DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME is an antiquated system.   Although his change did not pass in legislature.  He put a pause on the voting before it was final.  He and his thugs pretty much of the opposition to change their votes. (Even the ones who won their seat by telling the voters they would never vote for EDT.   Which in reality is ATLANTIC TIME).   We only have one state that has a very, very small part in the Atlantic time Zone This means when the sun says 7:30 pm  we are observing 9:30 pm.  I have a 9am appointment which is a 1 hour drive away.  This means I have to be up and about by no later than 7am am.    With the game ending around midnight here, finishing my blog puts it 1 am before I get to bed.  Then another hour to settle down to sleep.  So yeah I may get 4-5 hours sleep. But it is usually 4 hours at most.   WHY this late start. To coddle those in California. Let California move 2 hours ahead of the sun.  Let all states in the good old USA move their clocks 2 hours ahead of the sun.   Health organizations have pointed out many many health hazards to the change of 1 hour.  Think what it is if you are 2 hours ahead.  So enjoy your game California.   We all know how screwed up your legislature is. ( Maybe they will let you move 3 hours ahead of the sun. Purdue number one seed upset by play in team Fairleigh-Dickinson 58-63.  BUT, they deserved the loss.  I saw them give up with about a minute to go.  Down by, (I think 3),   They just stood there and let FDU run the clock down.  Purdue made no move to gamble a foul.  Just stood there while the clock worked against them.   I put the blame for this squarely on Coach Painter.  Any coach would be yelling at them to foul.  I think it is time for Purdue to start looking for a new coach.  TONIGHT !! The year 1979 was the inaugural year for SEEDING the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.  THIS is the first year NO number 1,2,or 3 team made it to the FINAL FOUR.  To make things more interesting. this is the first time Florida Atlantic has won an NCAA Tournament game.  San Diego State  finally got to the ELITE EIGHT.  Last year was the first time  Miami got to the Elite Eight.  UConn hasn’t been fairing well the past few years Remember when before the MADNESS began?  I told you seeding is just a place to start.   This year proves my point. The seeds add up to a total of 23.  UConn is the highest seeded team, being seeded number 4.  Followed by TWO number 5 teams.  Miami, and San Diego St.  Rounding out the FINAL FOUR is number 9 Florida Atlantic.  NO NUMBER 1 SEEDS TO ELITE 8.   FIRST TIME EVER !!!! FURMAN PALADINS gain 1st NCAA Tournament since 1980. With Southern Conf Championship. The NCAA has named replacement teams in the event any team is unable to start the tournament due to COVID-19.  The 4 teams are Louisville, Colorado State, St. Louis and Mississippi.  These teams were the first 4 to miss the cut.  After Tournament starts there will be no replacements.  Any team deemed unable to play will be considered a “NO CONTEST” , and team still able to play will automatically advance. I would like to see the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME played between UCLA; because they have come the farthest starting the tournament as a play in game.   AND Baylor,  because they have waited 61 years to return to the FINAL FOUR  Then I would like to see Baylor win the whole thing.  They are so long overdue.  The Baylor team last played in Championship game in 1948, getting beat by Kentucky, (who won their first championship), 58-42 at Madison Square Garden. 2020 MARCH MADNESS PICK SHEETS , UPDATES AND OCCASIONAL OPINION

MARCH 12,2020 “Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships,” the NCAA said in a statement. “This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.” This marks the first year the NCAA tournament has not been played since its inception in 1939.
