Junior Seau was a football icon, a defensive powerhouse who dominated the NFL for 20 seasons and earned a reputation as one of the greatest linebackers of all time. His larger-than-life personality and relentless playing style made him beloved by fans, teammates, and opponents alike. However, in May 2012, Seau’s life came to a tragic and shocking end when he died by suicide at the age of 43. His death left the sports world in disbelief and raised serious questions about the long-term impact of head injuries in football. Following his passing, Seau’s family donated his brain for research, and it was confirmed that he had suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma. His death not only underscored the dangers of concussions in contact sports but also helped spark a national conversation about player safety in the NFL. Junior Seau’s Football Career: A Legend on the Field Before his tragic death, Junior Seau’s football career was the stuff of legend. Drafted fifth overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 1990 NFL Draft, Seau quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier defensive players. Known for his intensity, leadership, and ability to read offenses, Seau was the heart and soul of the Chargers’ defense for 13 seasons. He earned 12 Pro Bowl selections and was named to the All-Pro team 10 times. Seau’s legacy extended beyond San Diego. He went on to play for the Miami Dolphins and later the New England Patriots, where he was part of two Super Bowl teams. By the time he retired in 2009, Seau had cemented his place as one of the best linebackers in NFL history, finishing his career with 1,849 tackles and 56.5 sacks. Despite his incredible success on the field, it became clear after his death that the toll the game took on his body and mind was far greater than anyone had realized. The Tragic Death of Junior Seau On May 2, 2012, Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, California, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. His death by suicide stunned the sports world, as Seau was known for his infectious energy, positivity, and love for life. He was not someone anyone expected to take his own life. Seau’s suicide was eerily similar to the death of former Chicago Bears safety Dave Duerson, who also died by suicide in 2011 after shooting himself in the chest. Like Duerson, Seau left his brain intact, suggesting that he may have been aware of the potential damage caused by his years of playing football. At the time of his death, Seau did not leave a suicide note, but his family and friends were left searching for answers, grappling with the possibility that the cumulative impact of concussions had contributed to his mental health decline. The Link to CTE: A Family’s Donation and Medical Discovery In the wake of Junior Seau’s death, his family made the decision to donate his brain to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for scientific research. The results of the analysis were devastating but not entirely surprising. In January 2013, the NIH confirmed that Seau had suffered from **chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition linked to repeated head injuries and concussions. CTE can lead to symptoms such as memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, depression, and suicidal thoughts—all of which are believed to have played a role in Seau’s death. CTE is caused by the buildup of an abnormal protein called tau, which forms clumps that slowly spread throughout the brain, killing brain cells and impairing cognitive functions. The disease had been discovered in the brains of other former NFL players, including Duerson and former Pittsburgh Steelers center Mike Webster, but Seau’s case added a new level of awareness to the discussion because of his high profile and the circumstances of his death. The findings confirmed what many had feared: Seau’s years of repeated hits to the head had likely led to his CTE diagnosis and the mental health struggles he faced leading up to his death. His family later spoke out about how Seau had exhibited signs of emotional instability, mood swings, and difficulty sleeping in the years before his death, which they now believe were linked to his brain condition. The Impact on the NFL and Player Safety The death of Junior Seau and the confirmation of his CTE diagnosis marked a turning point in the NFL’s handling of concussions and player safety. While concerns about concussions had been growing for years, Seau’s case brought the issue to the forefront in a way that was impossible to ignore. His death raised serious questions about the long-term health risks that players face from repeated blows to the head and whether the NFL was doing enough to protect its athletes. Following Seau’s death, the NFL took significant steps to address the growing crisis surrounding head injuries and CTE. The league implemented new concussion protocols, improved sideline evaluations, and placed greater emphasis on player education about the risks of head trauma. In 2016, the NFL publicly acknowledged the link between football-related concussions and CTE—a statement that had been long overdue. Seau’s family also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the NFL, alleging that the league had failed to protect players from the risks of repeated head injuries. While the lawsuit was eventually settled, it highlighted the growing legal and moral battles between former players and the league over the issue of player safety. Ongoing Debate and Theories Although the discovery of CTE in Junior Seau’s brain helped explain some of the reasons behind his tragic death, the case has also raised broader questions about how head injuries are managed in professional football and the overall culture of the NFL. Some of the ongoing debates and theories surrounding Seau’s death include: 1. Could More Have Been Done? – Many have questioned whether more could have been done to prevent Seau’s death. Could the NFL… Continue reading **The Death of Junior Seau: A Tragic Loss and the Rise of CTE Awareness**

THE FUTURE of SOLDIER FIELD: RENOVATE or RELOCATE?
[adrotate group=”1″] 🏈The Chicago Bears’ association with Soldier Field is one steeped in history and tradition. As one of the NFL’s oldest franchises, the Bears’ decision to either remain at Soldier Field or move to a new stadium is fraught with both sentiment and strategy. Here, we explore the pros and cons of each option. Pros of Staying at Soldier Field Historical Significance: Soldier Field has been home to the Bears since 1971 and is a monument to American football history. It stands as a testament to the team’s storied past and offers fans a sense of continuity and heritage. Location: Nestled within the city’s metropolitan area, Soldier Field is easily accessible for city dwellers and offers stunning views of the Chicago skyline, enhancing the game-day experience. The stadium generates significant economic activity for local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and vendors, especially on game days. Cons of Staying at Soldier Field Outdated Facilities: Despite renovations, Soldier Field struggles to meet modern standards for amenities and technology compared to newer stadiums. Limited Capacity: With a seating capacity of just over 61,000, it is one of the smallest stadiums in the NFL, limiting ticket sales and revenue potential. Restrictions on Expansion: Soldier Field is a historical landmark, which imposes restrictions on any significant structural changes or expansions. Pros of Relocating State-of-the-Art Stadium: A new stadium would offer modern amenities, increased comfort for fans, and advanced technology for an enhanced viewing experience. Increased Revenue: A larger stadium would allow for more ticket sales, luxury boxes, and events, significantly boosting the team’s revenue. Opportunity for Growth: A new location could provide space for additional facilities, such as training complexes and administrative offices, fostering growth and development. Cons of Relocating Loss of Tradition: Moving away from Soldier Field would sever ties with a rich history that has become a part of the team’s identity. Financial Burden: Building a new stadium is a massive financial undertaking, with costs often running into the billions, which may not be recouped quickly. Community Impact: Relocation could negatively impact the businesses and workers who rely on the stadium’s presence in the city. In conclusion, the decision to either revitalize Soldier Field or build a new home for the Bears is complex. It involves weighing the benefits of modernization and potential revenue against the intangible value of tradition and history. The Bears’ choice will ultimately reflect their vision for the team’s future and its legacy. This post is a high-level overview of the considerations involved in the decision-making process for the Chicago Bears’ potential move from Soldier Field. For a more detailed analysis, further research and input from stakeholders, including fans, city officials, and the team itself, would be beneficial.🏈 [adrotate group=”1″] Post Views: 144
NFL CONFIDENCE WEEK 2 09/15-18-19/2022
Sorry about all the delays. Still having problems with WP and they don’t seem eager to correcting the problems they created in the last 2 updates. Looking for a suitable replacement. I don’t know about you. But I did not miss TNF. It just does not make sense for me to pay all that money, when my favorite team may only play TNF one time a year. Next thing you will have to subscribe to Apple TV to watch a game, then ROKU, then HULU, and who knows how many subscriptions you will have. JUST to watch your favorite team play maybe 1 game a year. I enjoyed the Bears game Sunday. Call me old fashioned, but I like the old time style games inclement weather and all PLAYED OUTDOORS. Like it was meant to be. Although I am still a Russell Wilson fan; and have been since his college days. I still enjoy watching him play. But, as you know I was really disappointed by his defection to the Broncos, SO i was pleased they lost last night, and wish them the same results the rest of the season. I knew it was time for he and Pete Carrol to part ways. The only worst teams he could have defected to would be a Florida team. NOTE: TNF (Thursday Night Football will be broadcast on PRIME VIDEO. To watch TNF you will be required to have a subscription to Prime Video. (This is the way I read it. If I am wrong let me know so I can watch TNF also. From what I read you have 2 options. 1. An Amazon Prime account. Cost: $14.99 a month or $139 a year. 2 . A Prime Video membership at $8.99 a month. I feel you would really want to watch 1 NFL game a week to pay this much. (As for me I can not see paying for a single game a week, which I will most likely fall asleep before it ends. I usually do on Sunday, and Monday games. I usually fall asleep sometime during the game; sometimes I wake up to see the final minutes, MOST of the time I don’t. I feel like the NFL has done a dis-service to its fans. NFL already has a pay per view in its NFL + app available for streaming for $9.99 a month which allows you to watch out of market games also. For those of you who are new here. This is how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game. EXAMPLE: Say this week we have 16 games. The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1. You add up the TOTAL CORRECT PICKS.. That would be your score. We use the Monday night (Last game played) as a TIE BREAKER. The tie is broken by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating teams) final score, without going over. YOU can adopt the scoring described above. Or, the optional method. A negative score for missed games. We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions. EXAMPLE: if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pts on the second game and lost you would still have 1 pt. 1. HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a –14 score If we were playing this is how my sheet would look; My pick will be in bold Capital letters. you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting. I will show my correct points in Bold I will fill in my picks Thursday. Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use. Or to see if you can beat me. IF YOU SEE I MADE A MIS-COPY OF THE GAMES AND TIMES FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AND TELL ME I GOOFED. NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 1 09/06-09-10/2018
Welcome to our 6th year of NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS !!!!! This also marks the 99th SEASON OF THE NFL!! SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN POSTING. WE ENCOUNTERED A FEW TECHNICAL DIFICULTIES. WE saw a new NFL record set Sunday: LONGEST GAME. Due to the LIGHTNING delay the Titans/Dolphins game set the record at 7 hours, 10 minutes. Previous record: 5 hours, 16 minutes – Bears vs. Ravens in 1970. (There may have been a longer game before the NFL-AFL merger). After reviewing the “QUESTIONABLE INCOMPLETE”, call for Atlanta Falcon’s Julio Jones. I must concur the call was correct, It appeared the ball touched the ground before he gained control of the ball. Unless I am in error of my understanding. THE new POLICY, regarding STANDING FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. Is still a P-O-L-I-C–Y! Which is what it was last year, when the NFL said a POLICY is not a rule, and cannot be enforced. The only thing I see different is the OPTION to not come on the field. So it appears NFL only publicized it as appeasement to UNITED STATES CITIZENS. The only enforcement will be up to the owners,(and we saw they didn’t enforce it last year. Rule changes and point of EMPHASIS will only appear here this one time. I will try to put them on a separate post with a link to that post on future weeks. So if you don’t want to read these changes just page down to the bracket. Here is a list of the rule changes, as I understand them. 2018 NFL RULES CHANGES USE OF HELMET The most significant change for 2018 is the new Use of Helmet rule. The rule states that it is a foul if a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent. This rule pertains to all players on the field, and to all areas of the field. Visit the searchable 2018 NFL Rulebook. The officiating standards for the Use of Helmet rule are: Lowering the head (not to include bracing for contact) Initiating contact with the helmet to any part of an opponent. Contact does not have to be to an opponent’s head or neck area — lowering the head and initiating contact to an opponent’s torso, hips, and lower body, is also a foul. Making contact on an opponent (both offense and defense) Players can be ejected for use of helmet fouls — and all ejections will be reviewed by senior officials in Art McNally GameDay Central in New York. The standards for ejection are, if: The player lowers his helmet to establish a linear body posture prior to initiating and making contact with the helmet; The player delivering the blow had an unobstructed path to his opponent; and if The contact was clearly avoidable KICKOFF RULES Owners voted to change the kickoff rules for the 2018 season. The Committee will reevaluate the effects of the changes in the offseason. New kickoff rules for the 2018 NFL season. Beginning this season: The kickoff team must have five players on each side of the ball and cannot line up more than one-yard from the restraining line. For example, the kicking team will line up at the 34-yard line for a kickoff from the 35-yard line. At least two players must be lined up outside the yard-line number and two players between the inbounds lines (hash marks) and the yard-line number. At least eight players of the receiving team must be lined up in the 15-yard “setup zone” prior to kickoff; only three receiving-team players can remain outside of the setup zone. No wedge blocks are permitted. A wedge block is defined as “two or more players intentionally aligning shoulder-to-shoulder within two yards of each other, and who move forward together in an attempt to block for the runner.” Players initially lined up in the setup zone may still double-team a block if it is not a wedge block. Until the ball is touched or hits the ground, no player on either the receiving or kicking team may block within the 15-yard area from the kicking team’s restraining line. On an onside kick, the kicking team may not block in the first 10 yards. The ball is dead if it is not touched by the receiving team and touches the ground in the end zone (touchback). Visit the NFL rulebook to see the official language for the 2018 kickoff rules. CATCH RULE Owners voted to simplify the standards of a catch. There are now three main requirements for completing a catch. The player must: Owners voted to simplify the standards of a catch. Have control of the ball Get two feet or another body part down Make a football move, such as a third step, reaching or extending for the line-to-gain, or having the ability to perform such an act A player no longer must control the ball through the ground for a completed catch, and movement of the ball does not automatically result in loss of control. If a player loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds. A receiver is considered defenseless throughout the entire process of a catch, up until the player is capable of avoiding or warding off impending contact. ILLEGAL BATTING AND KICKING THE BALL It is an illegal bat if: Any player bats or punches a loose ball in the field of play toward his opponent’s goal line Any player bats or punches a loose ball (that has touched the ground) in any direction, if it is in either end zone An offensive player bats a backward pass in flight toward his opponent’s goal line. A forward pass in flight may be tipped, batted, or deflected in any direction by any eligible player at any time. No player may deliberately kick a loose ball or a ball that is in a player’s… Continue reading NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 1 09/06-09-10/2018

“DEFLATE GATE” Final Word
This will be the final word you hear from me on “DEFLATE GATE”. 🏈 Not all involved were fairly punished. You have the officials who receive the ball from the sidelines to be put in play. All veterans. We know they could easily tell the ball were under inflated. We have all seen them squeeze the ball before putting it in play. Yet, they went virtually unpunished for permitting this infraction. The QB in question a four game vacation. Really? (Slap on the hand) No, No, don’t do that again. As for the PATRIOTS (?)…would a real PATRIOT cheat just to win a kids game. So they lost a couple of draft picks. That is pretty easy to get around. If they see someone they really need they work out a trade with another team for him. So much for the lost draft pick. A million dollar fine. For the most of us fans that sounds like a LOTTA MONEY. But how much did they make counting in all revenue streams for “winning” the Super Bowl. Let’s say a minimum of 10 million dollars. (probably a lot more than that). But WHO of you would not shrug off a 1 million dollar fine, when you were able to pocket the other 9 million dollars. But even though they cheated one must ask the question. DID THEY WIN THE SUPER BOWL, or were they handed it by a coaching error by the SEATTLE SEAHAWK staff. I have not spoken to any one who thought they made the right call. All agree they would just keep putting the ball in the hands of Lynch. But they did make that call, and you have to admit Pete Carroll made a lot of strange calls throughout the season, and for the most part they worked out. I guess you could say he went to the well one time too many. He merely played on the fact that the other team would expect him to go with the obvious. But it did rob his team and The really best QB in many years of back-to-back Super Bowls. Like I said the PATRIOTS basically received a reprimand Roger Goodell thought the public would accept without really hurting his friends. That Is The Way I See It. Post Views: 108
Pro Bowl Sunday; 01/26/2014
Today is the first of the newly formatted PRO BOWL. Whoopee. In the beginning this was to be the ALL STAR event of FOOTBALL However, this has been reduced to a sham of the original intent. To bring those who gave the most effort and really stood out during the current season representing their division. It slowly turned into a paid vacation for the big name players, (regardless of the worth of their season). Some of those Highly paid players even had the nerve to turn down the invitation. Last year was, in my estimation, the best Pro Bowl game in many years. So with things looking up for the Pro Bowl, the powers of the league. decided to change the format. This year you will see TEAM MEMBER AGAINST TEAM MEMBER. How do they think this will be better? No more AFC Vs NFC. No East Vs West. No North Vs South. BUT ; Brother Vs Brother. Team mate against Team mate. LOL!! WHAT A JOKE. Imagine (if you will) ME, as your STAR Quarterback. Your Job is to Put me down. Because we are not Team mates on this day, but rivals. So you do your JOB today. You do it well. But while doing your JOB you give me a career ending injury. YAY for you. But tomorrow you have to face your Club’s Owner. “What were you thinking”. He Yells. “Just doing my Job”. You say. I’m sure it would end there. Aren’t You? If you are able to retain your position with the CLUB. Now you will be playing with a new QB. Changes will be made. Maybe your team will have a miraculous season and do well. Or, just maybe they won’t. Do you think your Team mates will have the same respect for you. How about your fans. What I am saying is; This is a no win for NFL. Yes they can be sure to not put a player in the position of injuring a fellow Team mate. But there is nothing to play for. The little amount of money the players receive in this game is less than some donate to charity a year. Just as I said Last Year was a great game. This year I see nothing of interest to watch. So, I may try to watch a bit. But I expect very little competition. Just a walk thru practice game. If you watch it I hope you get a good game, or at least some kind of pleasure from it. As for me I expect it to be a waste of my time. (I could be wrong, most likely not). But for those of you who do watch i wish you well That Is How I See It. Post Views: 80
How Do You PIck A Super Bowl Winner
How Do You PIck A Super Bowl Winner? After talking to many people I have found many different ways, people use to pick the Super Bowl Winner, even down to the score. I, like probably most of you look at past performance, and the statistics, etc. Some simply pick their hometown, (if they happen to be participating), team. Other may pick a team because they like a player,or because one the players came from their home town or state. But I know of one lady who won a football pool which included all the play off games. She had also used this method to win three consecutive NCAA basketball office pools. What is her favorite method of consistently choosing winners? Men this will make little sense to you. Women it may make more sense to you. HERE is her little secret. The coaches of each team. Have you guessed it yet? She looks at each coach, and selects the team with the more handsome looks. Well it works for her. Apparently. This next one was passed on to me from an Indiana resident. Just last night, as a matter of fact. He told me one of the local TV weatherman has chosen New York Giants by Nine (9). According to his recount of the weatherman’s method is really quite simple. Are you ready for this? Reportedly the temperature in New York; on Super Bowl Sunday will be 44 degrees. The temperature in Foxborough ,will be 35. A nine degree difference. This would indicate a final score New York Giants, 44. New England Patriots, 35. Although my informant did say the weatherman did make this disclaimer. He would not guarantee the 44-35 score. Only the 9 point difference in favor of New York’s Giants. So whatever your method may your team win. If you are interested I can tell you the score right now before the game even begins …………..0-0 Right? I kind of lean toward the New York Giants. I see a little more desire in their eyes. But I see revenge in the eyes of the New England Patriots. Will desire win out over revenge. I feel desire will lead to the win, because REVENGE can cause more mistakes, and if I am right the New England penalties, and errors will give New York Giants the edge. That Is How I See It. Indiana Super Bowl Vs Worker’s Rights
By now you all know of the struggles of the Union workers in Indiana. You also know Indiana is hosting the Super Bowl. It is too bad the legislators in Indiana refuse to listen to the people who elected them. It is too bad they do not have a sense of timing. But as we try to keep up on politics a little. (Remember I do not believe in POLITICS in GOVERNMENT). Politics get in the way of doing the bidding of the people. Looking back on the administration of one MITCH DANIELS, it is plain to see there has been no regard as to the welfare of the working man, in Indiana. He has led a government “of the people“ by “BIG BUSINESS” for “BIG BUSINESS” He finagles what ever Big Business wants, (after all they are the ones who line politicians pockets with the GREEN). It is just too bad the football fans from around the country who are visiting Indiana to be caught up in his MESS. But he tends to play on the big field. Regardless of the consequences of the STATE, COUNTRY, or PEOPLE he pretends to represent. From what I have seen of this person, I, personally can’t understand why anyone would vote for him in the first place. But the citizens of Indiana apparently did. People of America would you,(how could you), ever consider someone of his caliber for President of the United States. Oh yeah that’s right you elected Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. Nevermind. So FOOTBALL fans you have a right to blame the Hoosiers, (no disrespect to Indiana University); for trying to spoil your stay in Indiana. Had they had any sense they would not have put Daniels in the position of TSAR. So I recommend you just ignore the fact Daniels intentionally put you in the middle of his MESS. Enjoy the weather Indiana is experiencing. Enjoy the Game. NFL owner, remember what Daniels has put you in the middle of his MESS. Remember this well if Indiana ever wants you back for another Super Bowl. That Is How I See It. PS. I remember seeing one of his campaign speeches in which he states would never back or sign any legislation that interfered with worker rights. Post Views: 142
Eli Manning Peyton Manning
It would seem the MEDIA has forgotten who is playing in the SUPER BOWL. Hey you guys it is ELI MANNING who is quarterbacking the New York Giants in the BIG GAME. Sure everyone is concerned about Peyton’s future in football. But really little brother ELI should be the focus of your attention. It is his moment in the sun. LET HIM ENJOY IT !!! I could be wrong, but I do not remember Peyton being asked a bunch of questions about ELI when he was preparing to play in the SUPER BOWL. Shouldn’t real sport journalists, be focused on the game at hand. I’m pretty sure, by now, Peyton is competent to answer questions about himself after all these years in the spot light. Being a little brother myself, I am perhaps prejudiced. I love my brother. But can I enjoy a little attention regarding my accomplishments. Meanwhile, back at the MEDIA rooms, PATRIOT QB TOM BRADY is able to soak up all the glory befitting a SUPER BOWL QB. Please Sports Media. Enough is Enough. Give ELI MANNING the same respect as you give TOM BRADY. Big brother, Peyton, will be around after the SUPER BOWL and will know more about which direction his future will take him. But now is ELI and the New York Giants time. Just as it is Tom Brady and the New England Patriots time. That Is How I See It. Post Views: 205
