WELCOME TO YOUR 2019 NCAA TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS VIRGINIA YOUR 2019 NCAA CHAMPION. WITH OT VICTORY. VIRGINIA 85 TEXAS TECH 77 I am not sure how many years we have been doing this BUT counting pre blog days… It has been 28 years. Most of those have been over the internet For all the Auburn fans and MEDIA PEOPLE who call that last foul as QUESTIONABLE (?) Let me tell you THERE WAS NO QUESTION to it. IT was definitely a foul !! The defender JUMPED into the shooter. That is a foul all day long. As to the missed double dribble call. THAT was just that a missed call in a crucial game; at a crucial time. But it is one of those things I didn’t pick it up until the replay. The commentators, and most anyone would miss it. Unfortunate? YES. But that game was moving at a quick pace. Think of all the rules a referee has to look for. Take that times 10 athletes. I am sure the officials were looking more for contact, than a rare ball handling miscue. After all remember the rules have changed so much over the years. They let them get by with palming the ball, (turning the ball over in their hands, OFFENSIVE can legally GOAL TEND, but Defense is not allowed to defend in like manner. THEY call it DUNKING THE BALL. Any time the hand is in the imaginary circle immediately above the rim THAT IS GOAL TENDING. They rarely call travel, and I can’t count the times i have seen this violation, (it also occurs when one palms the ball). They are getting better about watching the three second lane violation; but it still happens. I saw one instance of kicking the ball not called. Because apparently they changed that rule also. Time was any time the ball hit your foot it was kicking the ball. Apparently now it has to be deemed INTENTIONAL. Basketball used to be a no contact sport. Not so much anymore National Championship Minneapolis April 8 CBS Virginia Vs Texas Tech 20:30 This is where you can print your “OFFICE POOL” Bracket, Check the scores, etc. Yes I will have “MY PICKS” so you can compare your picks to mine. (And Laugh or Cry)I will have A “MASTER BRACKET”, “WHAT IF YOU CHOSE THE HIGH PICKS” for each game. Yes I will have MY PICKS. .An “UPSET” will be RED on “ALL HIGH PICKS” Bracket. GREEN indicate HIGH SEED Win What is a seed? Merely a starting place. Although unlikely, IT is possible for two 16 seeds to meet in the final game. Would lets say Michigan St were to be seeded as a number 16. They would still have to win all games to be CHAMPION ! SEEDING attempts to give a more favored team an easier path to the CHAMPIONSHIP. Seeding should lead to the best 2 teams playing in the final game. However there is always that upset minded team; or the chance that the favored team has a bad game, a stand out player is sick or injured. To print BRACKET: HOVER OVER SHEET. You will see a window at bottom with an arrow pointing down (second from right). Click this button. It will open a new window with the bracket then click the printer icon or go to file, and PRINT. NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 13 12/01- 04 – 05/2016
The final four for the NCAA Football Championship is out. I would like to know HOW Ohio State, which did not make the BIG TEN Championship game. DID not win their Big Ten Division Championship team is IN the Playoff. Penn St. Won their Division. Penn State won the BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. PENN ST. handed Ohio St. Their lone loss this year. HOW could you put Ohio St. In and Penn St. Out. M-O-N-E-Y!! Most likely. I heard the “talk”, that Ohio St. is a bigger draw than Penn St. Just would like to know; if you leave out the M-O-N-E-Y. What qualified a Non-conference winner to replace a conference CHAMPION. RECAP: Week 12 saw only 1 OT Game. That being theChiefs victory over the Broncos. A mere 2 games within 3 pts. Panthers 32 Raiders 35. AND the OT game Chiefs 30 Broncos 27. My big surprise was the defeat of the Seahawks. Unfortunately where I live we only have 2 stations which broadcast the 16:05 game or 16:25 game. (This isn’t the first time I hav missed a game because one or the other failed their commitment to broadcast a game). I understand from what I read Seattle had several starters injured. AND Wilson being sacked 4 times just in the first half. But that is no excuse. The BACKUP PLAYERS at this level should be able to perform too. But as Russell Wilson said; “THEY MADE THEIR PLAYS AND WE DIDN’T” For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game. EXAMPLE: Say this week we have 16 games. The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1. We use the Monday night game as a TIE BREAKER. The tie is broke by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating tams) final score, without going over. If we were playing this is how my sheet would look; My pick will be in bold Capital letters. you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting. I will show my correct points in Bold YOU can adopt the scoring described above. Or, the optional method. A negative score for missed games. We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions. EXAMPLE: if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pt on the second game and lost you would still have a Positive 1. HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a -14 score. I will fill in my picks Thursday. Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use. Or to see if you can beat me. IF YOU SEE I MADE A MISS COPY OF THE GAMES AND TIMES FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AND TELL ME I GOOFED. * Keep in mind; NFL sometimes uses, “FLEXIBLE SCHEDULEING”, which means they may change game times. Unless I catch the last minute change you will see the original schedule. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. College Conferences
Have you noticed how College conferences have spread out. At one time we had ACC with schools on the East coast (near the Atlantic Ocean). We had PAC 10 with schools on the west coast (near the Pacific Ocean). Big 10 in the midwest with schools in the midwestern states. I find it amusing the Big 12 Conference has 10 schools. The Big 10 had 11 and now 12. Should these two conferences just switch names. But recently, I will use only the Big 1o-11, now 12 , and the Big East conference as examples. The Big Ten, a few years ago, expanded east with the addition of Penn St. Now they have added a school which is in the west Nebraska. Now we have a team from the “Wild West” TCU joining the Big East. Why would these Conferences want these schools and why would these schools want to join so distant a conference? The colleges join for economical reasons these conferences give them more exposure, and better recruiting influences. The conferences also want the REVENUE. Take the Big 10. Big 10 usually has at least 2,3, or more representatives in Bowl Games. The money paid to the participating teams is split at least 3 ways. Some to the school who plays, some to the schools who didn’t get a bowl bid, and the rest to the CONFERENCE. Unfortunately, again, Money rules our college athletics. To get off the subjects just a mite, look at the coaches. Why do small colleges retain coaches longer. In small schools, and I am talking about small liberal arts colleges, the emphasis is not so much on winning but building character. These colleges do not give Athletic scholarships. The coaches job is to instill qualities of leadership, teamwork, and other elements to make a better person. Much of the time they do not even charge admission to their games. But there have been several of these athletics go on to play on pro teams. The large Universities use athletics to bring in revenue. Losing teams don’t draw big crowds. The coaches get paid BIG money to produce winning programs. The more successful the team the more money they make. The university is closely aligned with their successful coaches. UCLA and Johnny Wooden. Mention Joe Paterno and people think Penn St. Bobby Knight people think Indiana University. These are great coaches of their games and building character. But if they did not win as many games as they did, and have, The fact that they instilled proper ethics, they would not have been at their jobs as long as they were/are. When it comes to athletics and Conferences MONEY is the bottom line. That Is How I See It. Post Views: 146
Half Court uh Half Field Football
The Big Ten has announced a rule change for Saturdays football game at Wrigley Field. Northwestern University is playing Illinois at Wrigley Field Saturday. But with a twist. They say the the middle of the east end zone is too close to the playing field. So Eight months ago both schools and the Big Ten approved the layout of the field without any Safety Concerns . But after the field was layed out a conference official decided the heavily padded wall was a Safety hazard. Maybe the stadium has had some changes since the Chicago Bears played their games there. Or the field was just lain out poorly for this game. But for the Northwestern Vs Illinois game, all kickoffs will be to the East end of the field. At possession changes all offensive plays will be toward the West end zone. This being said, I wonder if, I am a defensive player and I intercept a pass, do I run East (as I should) or do I a reverse and run West. A coin flip was held by the conference Friday and Illinois will sit on the West end bench the 1st half, with Northwestern occupying the West end bench the 2nd half, and overtimes. I realize that player safety is of utmost importance. But after a year of planning, couldn’t they have figured out a better layout or decide it could not be safely played. But to wait until Friday, the day before the game? This could be an interesting thing. Probably a One Time Ever Event. I plan to watch just for the novelty. Game time is 3″30 pm EST, on ESPNU ( at least in my area). Watch it. I’ll bet even the officials get confused. That’s the way I see it. Post Views: 119
Dickie Vitale Running up Score
Dick Vitale is a truly nice man. I met him in person one time and we had a delightful conversation. I respect him tremendously. But while watching a basketball game last night, He really made a strange statement. Duke who is always running up the score on lesser teams, and Mr. Vitale rarely says anything about it. They can have a 40 point lead at half time and keep playing their STARTERS. But last night he began talking FOOTBALL. He admitted he had not seen the game and apparently hadn’t read about the game in question. It was the Big Ten game between Wisconsin and Indiana. Coach Bill Lynch said he was not upset with Wisconsin scoring so many points. Except that his team allowed it to happen. The score, if you missed it was 83-20. I know it sounds like a run up. But what Mr. Vitale doesn’t understand is Wisconsin took out their Starters and played the boys who don’t get much playing time. To me this doesn’t count as running up the score. After all who would want to put these subs in and not let them play ball. You look for opportunities like this to actually give your subs real game experience. It just happened that Indiana’s football team, was having a really bad day and was unable to keep up with Wisconsin’s second and third string. Teams have days like that. I remember one Monday night bowling I rolled a 630 series. Tuesday I bowled on the same two lanes and had a 384. I wasn’t too proud of that but I worked harder on that 384 than the 630. How did it happen? Heck if I know. You just have those days. Mr. Vitale do you really think that a group of players who rarely get into a game should not play hard. It kind of reminds me of the Indianapolis Colts throwing a game that would have given them a perfect season. Difference is they benched their starters in fear of “injury”. Those players will probably never have a chance to play a perfect season again. The Wisconsin subs may never get another chance to get this much real game experience. Mr. Vitale I Believe you owe the Wisconsin Badgers an apology That is how I see it. Post Views: 101
